About Melody

I use my work as a conduit to get people's memory juices flowing. One way I attempt this is by creating composite imagery and artifacts, which is meant to help start a conversation within one’s self. Whether it’s about a story, an adventure, a place, etc., that s/he may have experienced, I want my viewer/wearer to have a personal tale to accompany each piece. In many of my pieces, I incorporate embroidery that tells a literal story to my audience. The fabric that I create adds a dimension of texture and contrasting materials that I can’t get from using traditional, rigid materials alone. Stitching enables me to encapsulate a colorful narrative within the confines of a small jewelry object.

I got my start in jewelry at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. There I was given the opportunity to experiment with materials and process that I had never considered before. My interest in raw material, story telling, artifacts, and grit became cemented in the sidewalks; This was my city. The rich city scenery inspired me to no end, but adventure called me South to explore new landscapes.  I currently work out of my home studio in Austin, with my trusted feline assistant, Sophie.
